World Tennis in The 1980's.

My favourite era, pertaining to tennis, is the 1980's. The era was a different age, from the present, in more ways than one. There was less conflict in the world, and living, for the inhabitants of the earth, was easier, or so it seems to me. The tennis players were outstanding, in their ability, in the competition among them, and, above all, in the mystique they exuded, or which I percieved, they exuded.
The player whom I liked watching the most, for the aggression exhibited, has to be Jimmy Connors. Even if he had been less accomplished a tennis player, his fascinating personality would have sufficed. The way he moved in court, up, down, diagonally, sideways, was the icing on the cake.
John McEnroe, was arresting, because of his serious tennis ability, and his serious attitude, and his serious commitment to the sport. He obviously loves the sport. The likes of his touch tennis, may never be seen again. His emotions on court, were driven by his perceptions. I don't think he found his own reactions very reasonable. He held his tennis playing ability in very high regard, but playing the game mattered the most to him.
Bjorn Borg was the greatest trier in that era of tennis. The effort that he put into his matches, was phenomenal. I appreciated the exhaustion just watching him play.
Vijay Amritraj was the player whom I watched with a great deal of interest, and curiosity. He played some great matches, even in the latter part of his career. The Davis cup semi-final tie comes to mind, which was played by India against Australia, and which was clinched by India.
The likes of these fascinating players may not be seen again.
